Hello TD Book Week Teachers!

Hello educators in Labrador! I'm super excited to be heading your way in May. I have lots of fun things planned for your class which involve moving, acting, and play. My literary workshops are great catalysts to further writing assignments as teens not only obtain the basic skills of great story writing, but also learn to put these skills to use through a variety of mediums. My classes are useful to the non-writer, the beginning writer, as well as the veteran teen writer who wants to make a living at it. I can't wait to explore words with your class and have some fun.
I have created some activities for your class to do before and after the workshop. Just follow the links:
  • Action!
  • Over Coming Challenges and Learning to Love Words

Now all you have to do is book me:
BOOK KIM
If you are an educator from outside of Labrador that is interested in having me visit you classroom to teach your kids some hands on writing skills as well as the love of all things words - just head over to the Contact Kim link.

Available classes:

ACTION! (60 – 90 minutes)
Action scenes are some of the hardest things to write. It's difficult to explain what's happening, keep the tension high, and maintain that heart stopping drama. In this one hour workshop we will discuss what makes a great action scene, learn how to create an action character, and find ways to translate movement into written action. Then, as a group, we will create a few fast-paced, live action scenes of our own.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES AND LEARNING TO LOVE WORDS (60 – 90 minutes)
In this one hour workshop we will search for stories in different types of media like greeting cards and video games. We will find ways around obstacles like dyslexia, ADHD, and other disabilities and challenges which stop us from enjoying words. Then, as a group, we will create an epic live action story (or two) which will become the stuff of legends, proving that anyone can be a writer.

For Adults (Teachers/Librarians/parents/youth workers)
Play with Your Words (60 – 90 minutes)
Play expands understanding, keeps attention, and improves lesson memory. Plus, it’s fun. Learn to captivate your elementary and teen students by turning lectures and ideas into hands on activities which stretch their imaginations, engage their minds, and make specific learning points into games and goals.

OR request a custom made class to meet your needs.
