Who is Kim Wakeford? Who is Kritter?
You'll see these comics signed with both of those names. Wakeford is my maiden name and Kritter is my nickname. All clear now? Good.
MEEP AND MONSTER
This comic was written when I was in my early twenties and living in Montreal. I was a nanny at the time and doing research for Boiled Cat. As a result I ran into a lot of bands and a lot of kids. Some of them made it into this project. Meep was the daughter of a punk rock bass player and a singer. Monster is Diva, daughter of Lia Berry (the person who wrote some of the lyrics in the Boiled Cat book). Diva now plays bass in her own heavy metal band Thrashadactyl. The kid drummer in the comic was the daughter of a Celtic rock singer and her mother, Jenny, collected prams and brought her kids to the park where I took my kids to play. All the babies in the comic are now in their twenties now. It's one of my first multi-page comics.
TRAIN GIRL
Train Girl is a total rip off of Tank Girl. I love Alan C. Martin's writing and Jamie Hewlett and Rufus Dayglo's art. See the original TANK GIRL stuff and buy it. I'm just a fan and not even close to as good. Regardless, I wrote this comic for a friend of mine who was one of the only girl train mechanics in her locomotive shop. I thought I would make her a character.
